Tornado touchdown confirmed near Colfax
COLFAX - The National Weather Service has confirmed a tornado hit the town of Colfax Friday afternoon.
Meteorologists say the tornado was considered a “weak” funnel, but it still packed a punch, damaging a gas station and tearing down some trees.
Colfax was the scene far more powerful and deadly tornado which took place on June 4, 1958. Twelve persons were killed and half the town destroyed, causing $2 million in damage.
This tornado was caused by storms that hit west-central Wisconsin in the early afternoon and dumped a good amount of rain into already swollen rivers and creeks. More rain is forecasted today and Sunday through to Monday.
