Tractor ride benefit for Byers Saturday
A tractor ride benefit will be held Saturday, Sept. 14 for Ellsworth resident Roxanne Byers.
Roxanne, 51, was diagnosed in Februrary with Wegener's Disease, a rare auto-immune disorder and a type of vasculitis (inflammation of the blood vessels) that has attacked her lungs and requires oxygen 24/7.
"Two years ago, she began losing her breath doing the simple things," her husband David explained. It wasn't until this February that medical personnel correctly diagnosed her. Roxanne now faces an uphill battle as she is in need of a lung transplant. David mentioned the world-famous Mayo Clinic in Rochester, Minn., told them no, as they don't do lung transplants.
So, thanks to friends and neighbors, benefits have been held. Bendilly's Bar and Grill held an antique tractor pull recently in addition to Saturday's and a benefit scheduled in February.
Saturday's benefit begins at 9 a.m., with a meeting at The Gas-Lite with the ride commencing 30 minutes later. David said 40 tractors would leave The Gas-Lite on their way to El Paso and back. He didn't give exact details on their route, only to say they would be traveling through East Ellsworth at some point.
