Travel center to house credit union branch
SPRING VALLEY--With the success the Team Oil Travel Center has had in its first four years of existence, an expansion of the facility, located west of downtown Spring Valley on Hwy. 29, seemed to be the next step.
Those plans became reality last week as Team Oil announced a 4,500 square foot addition to its current facility, which presently includes a BP gas station with a convenience/liquor store and the home of the Spring Valley Chamber of Commerce. The expansion plans will allow room for Team Oil's vinyl graphics and sign business, a touchless automatic car wash with credit card and deluxe detailing island, and a WESTconsin Credit Union (WCU) branch.
"These additions to the existing business have been repeatedly requested by our customers at the Team Oil Travel Center over the past four years," said Tony Huppert, one of the owners of Team Oil, Inc., the parent company of Team Oil Travel Center, Team Oil Culvert Sales and the Sign Team. Team Oil is a family-run business, operated by Tina, Trudy, Eric, Tony and Michele Huppert.
"The expansion will create new jobs (Huppert estimates at least nine) and expand our services to our local customers and to the hundreds of thousands of tourists that visit our area every year," he said. "We would like to see this project spur other economic development in Spring Valley."
When discussing the financing of the expansion, WCU officials wondered if there was any space available for them to put a branch in.
"I'd say about 40 percent of the cards we swipe here at the Travel Center are WESTconsin Credit Union debit cards," Eric Huppert said. "The addition of the WCU office will add another level of convenience for our customers."
Other WCU locations include Amery, Baldwin, Barron, Hudson, Menomonie, New Richmond and River Falls.
Mike Schmitz, WCU Vice President of Operations, said, "It's an excellent opportunity to improve our membership base in Spring Valley and provide financial service opportunities for others living or working in the Spring Valley area."
The Hupperts are planning a grand opening of the expansion next March.
