The first annual Ellsworth Triathlon, put on by Klaas-Jonas Community Swimming Pool and Fitness Influence, will be held Sunday, June 14, at 8 a.m. at the pool.


Entry fees for the triathlon are $30 per individual and $45 per team of two or three. They should be brought to the pool by Wednesday, June 10.

Mail-ins must be postmarked no later than Monday, June 8. No race day entries will be accepted.

General race information shows:

  • Start and finish of all events at the Klaas-Jonas Community Pool, 312 W. Panther Dr., Ellsworth;
  • Safety, bike is on open road (helmets are required);
  • Age groups, 16-19, 20-29, 30-39, 40-49, 50-59, 60-plus;
  • T-shirts for all registered participants and volunteers;
  • Awards will be given to top overall male and female finishers;
  • Raffle during award ceremony.

The triathlon will include 1/4 mile, 14 mile bike, 2.5 mile run (distances are approximate).

Swim--The 1/4 mile swim (eight laps) will take place at the pool. The temperature will be in the low-to-mid 80's and will be guided by lane lines.

Bike -- The 14 mile bike is a hilly and challenging course through the back roads of Ellsworth. Leave transition area to High Point Drive, right on Maple Street, left on South Street, cross 450th Street, cross CTH V to 750th Street, left on 330th Avenue, left on 730th Street, cross CTH V, right on 450th Avenue, left on CTH C, Left on 490th Avenue, right on Summit Avenue, left on Panther Drive to transition area. (No aid stations will be on bike course, please bring plenty of water.)

Run -- The approximate 2.5 mile run will exit the transition area and proceed to the south of the middle school. This is an off-road course. Follow course to finish line.

Transition areas -- The swim will start in the pool, with both the bike and the run exiting the transition area. The swim exit is about 200 yards from the transition area. No spectators will be allowed in the transition area.
