Truck driver dies at Creamery loading dock

A 75-year-old Minnesota truck driver apparently died of natural causes while seated in his semi at the loading dock of Ellsworth Cooperative Creamery Tuesday, Sept. 24.

Police were called to the creamery shortly after 7:30 a.m. for a report of an unresponsive male.

When officers arrived they found Derald L. Severson, Plainview, Minn., in the driver’s seat of his semi, which was running and parked at the loading dock.

Severson was taken from the truck. CPR was started but was stopped at 7:57 a.m. and the medical examiner was notified.

A creamery worker said he spoke with Severson shortly before 7 a.m. as he was backing into the dock but the driver didn’t pull away after the truck was unloaded.

The medical examiner believes Severson died of natural causes. Plainview police were asked to notify next of kin.
