Truck driver killed in collision with freight train near Hammond
A septic truck driver was killed yesterday, when he collided with a freight train near Hammond in western Wisconsin. Saint Croix County authorities said the Union Pacific train was heading from Chicago-to-Saint Paul when it hit a truck owned by Tri-County Sanitation of Hudson. The driver died at the scene. His name was not immediately released. No one on the train was physically hurt. Union Pacific officials said they would offer counseling to workers who were on the train at the time. Sheriff John Shilts said the crossing did not have an arm -- but it did have yield signs. The mishap occurred around 10:50 yesterday morning. It remains under investigation.
