TWINS ROUNDUP: Toronto uses long ball to defeat Minnesota
TORONTO, ONTARIO -- Toronto's Rajai Davis belted a three-run homer and Colby Rasmus added a two-run shot, as the Blue Jays blasted the Twins 11-5 at Rogers Centre. Twins starter Scott Diamond could not work past the fifth inning, allowing six runs and taking the loss. Rasmus finished 3-for-4 with three RBI, while Jose Reyes added a solo homer for the Jays, who took the rubber match of the three-game set. Edwin Encarnacion had a two-run triple in the victory. Todd Redmond gave up two runs on one hit and three walks in five innings of work for his first career win. Aaron Hicks and Trevor Plouffe both hit two-run homers for the Twins, who have dropped seven of their last eight.
The Twins continue their 10-game road trip as they open up a four-game series with the Rays tonight in Tampa. Samuel Deduno gets the ball for Minnesota. He is 4-and-3 with a 3.47 ERA in eight starts this season. The Rays will counter with Roberto Hernandez, who is 4-and-10 with a 4.95 ERA.
Twins catcher Joe Mauer and pitcher Glen Perkins have been named to the American League All-Star Team. Mauer is hitting .314 with eight homers and 30 RBI in 80 games this season. Perkins is 1-and-0 with 20 saves and a 1.93 ERA in 33 games this year. The 2013 All-Star Game is July 16th at Citi Field in New York.
