Two county wrestlers win titles at kids' state
Two young wrestlers from Pierce County won titles at the Wisconsin Wrestling Federation Kids Folkstyle State Tournament last month at Veterans Memorial Coliseum in Madison.
Haeli Casey of Spring Valley/Elmwood became the county’s first girls youth state champion as she took first in her 8-9-year-old age group at 50 pounds with a 7-0 win over Milana Borrell from the Waunakee Wrestling Club.
The Stuhls from Prescott both had top two finishes. Charlie Stuhl placed first in his 79-pound, 12-13 year-old division as he defeated Cole Bavery 2-1 from the Advance School of Wrestling. Sam Stuhl placed second in his 115-pound, 14-15 year-old division.
Also placing at state from Pierce County was Alex Hemker of Prescott. She finished fourth in her 13-15 year-old division at 152 pounds.
Other Pierce County wrestlers who qualified and competed in the state tournament were Kaleb Casey of Spring Valley/Elmwood, 54 pounds in the 10-11 year-old division; Benny Olson, Prescott, 54 pounds, 10-11 year-old division; Connor Lubich, Prescott, 90 pounds, 10-11 year-old division; Bailey Poellinger, Ellsworth, 73 pounds, 12-13 year-old division; Sawyer Hamilton, Ellsworth, 88 pounds in the 12-13 year-old division; Joseph Schulte, Prescott, 140 pounds, 12-13 year-old division; Jared Lansing, Ellsworth, 95 pounds, 14-15 year-old division; Owen Matzek, Ellsworth. 105 pounds, 14-15 year-old division; Logan Melstrom, Ellsworth, 125 pounds, 14-15 year-old division; Ryan McGregor, Ellsworth, 130 pounds, 14-15 year-old division; Ty Sanford, Prescott, 150 pounds, 14-15 year-old division; Weston Bartsch, Prescott, 210 pounds, 14-15 year–old division
