Two uninjured after ATV goes through Lake Pepin ice
A Wisconsin couple were uninjured after the ATV they were riding on went through the ice on Lake Pepin Sunday morning, the Goodhue County Sheriff's Office reported.
Gerald Todd, 49, and his wife, both of Fountain City, were riding out to their ice fishing site at about 7:44 a.m. Their vehicle went over a known pressure ridge -- which makes the ice unstable -- near Methodist Point and fell through the ice.
They were assisted by other fishermen, and both were able to get out of the water quickly. Their ATV was also retrieved.
Last week, Sheriff Scott McNurlin banned cars and trucks from Lake Pepin between mile markers 773 and 784. ATVs and snowmobiles were not banned.
