U women's hockey team snaps UW's winning streak
MADISON -- The No. 3 University of Minnesota women's hockey team upset top-ranked Wisconsin 3-2 in Madison yesterday. The victory was the Golden Gophers' first win at the Kohl Center since 2007 and ended a 33-game winning streak for the Badgers.
The top-ranked Badgers missed a chance to set a new NCAA record for an unbeaten streak, which they tied on Friday with a victory over the Number-Three Gophers
Wisconsin native Amanda Kessel broke a 2-2 tie with a Minnesota goal in the third period. The Golden Gophers had been up 2-0 before Wisconsin's Brooke Ammerman tied the game with a pair of goals.
Both teams are now 5-1 overall and 3-1 in the WCHA. The Golden Gophers host Minnesota State in a Thursday night game this week.
