U women's pucksters again need OT to get win
MINNEAPOLIS - The University of Minnesota women's hockey team again was taken to the brink of defeat but again survived in the NCAA Tournament.
The Golden Gophers edged Boston College 3-2 in overtime in the women's 2013 Frozen Four at Ridder Arena when Sarah Davis got the game-winning goal in the extra session at the 1:39 mark. The U also needed overtime to win in the quarterfinals last weekend over North Dakota. No. 1 Minnesota's record is now a perfect 40-0-0.
BC took a 1-0 lead in the second before the Gophs' responded with a pair of third period goals from Hannah Brandt and Becky Kortum. But the Eagles' Lexi Bender scored just before the end of the period to tie the game in front of a record crowd of 3,400.
Millica McMillan had two saves for the U and winning goalie Noora Raty made 26 saves. BC's net-minder Corinne Boyle made 36 saves.
The U is set up for national championship game Sunday at 3 p.m. against Boston University at Ridder Arena. BU beat Mercyhurst 4-1 in the other national semifinal game Friday.
