Update: Car-pickup crash Friday injures 14-month-old, toddler
ELMWOOD - An Elmwood woman and her two children were transported Friday directly from the scene of an accident in the town of Eau Galle to Regions Hospital in St. Paul with various injuries.
Bethany H. Olson, 35, along with passengers Gunner Olson, 2 and Emmajean Olson, 14 months, were rushed to Regions by Baldwin EMS personnel after their 2006 Chevrolet Impala was struck by a pickup truck and cattle trailer driven by Jeffrey J. Keyes, 46, from Knapp.
A Regions spokesman said Tuesday that Bethany Olson was treated and released. The children were transferred to Gillette Children's Specialty Healthcare. Gunner was released Tuesday morning however, Emmajean is still in the hospital with a traumatic brain injury. A Facebook page has been set up for her at: https://www.facebook.com/pages/Prayers-for-EmmaJean/803160109696203
St. Croix County authorities said investigation indicated Keyes was eastbound on CTH N when he failed to stop at the intersection with CTH B and struck the northbound Olson vehicle, pushing it into the northeast ditch while Keyes' 2011 GMC truck and it trailer came to rest in the north ditch.
Keyes was uninjured, according to a sheriff's department press release. Both he and Olson were wearing seat belts and both children were belted into appropriate car seats.
Four head of cattle in the trailer were apparently also uninjured and were transferred to another trailer once the crash investigation was completed.
Also assisting deputies were personnel from United Fire, the Baldwin Police Department, Wisconsin State Patrol and the Wisconsin DNR.
The crash remains under investigation.
