It was called the nastiest storm of the season and so far Thursday's morning storms have delivered, packing quite a punch to this area.

Freezing rain has made the roads treacherous. Radio scanner indicates a multi-vehicle pile-up towards Wieser Concrete which also resulted in a portion of US Highway 10 being blocked off.

The snow is expected to start around lunch time and depending on which weatherman you believe, Pierce County and western Wisconsin will be subject to eight to 14 inches of snow over the next 24 hours.

The combination of rain and snow has caused county schools to either close school for the day or be dismissed early. Ellsworth, Elmwood and Plum City announced they were closed for the day. Spring Valley is closing at 12 p.m., and Prescott at 12:30 p.m.

The closing of school mens no girls basketball games this evening.  The Prescott-Durand, Boyceville at Plum City, Glenwood City at Spring Valley and Elmwood at Elk Mound have been postponed. The Boyceville at PC game will take place on Saturday. The Glenwood City at Spring Valley game has been moved to Monday which cancels the Prescott at Spring Valley game originally scheduled for that evening and the Durand at Prescott game will be moved to Friday and will be played at 5:45 p.m. to be followed by the Prescott vs. Spring Valley boys' basketball game, which will tips-off at 7:30 p.m.
