UW-Eau Claire upsets UW-Platteville in WIAC tourney
There were two upsets Monday night in the quarter-finals of the WIAC men's basketball tournament.
Second-seeded University of Wisconsin-Platteville lost at No. 7 UW-Eau Claire 84-80.
Meanwhile, fifth-seeded UW-Superior eliminated No. 4 UW-Oshkosh 67-66.
UW-Eau Claire went up 11-0 and rolled from there, shooting just under 60-percent.
Geoff Probst scored 28 for the Bluegolds.
Dan Culy made two free-throws with 16 seconds left to give UW-Superior its victory.
Also, top-seeded UW-Whitewater beat UW-Stout at home, 78-67 and third-seeded UW-Stevens Point needed overtime to eliminate UW-La Crosse at home 74-66.
The conference semi-finals will be played Wednesday night.
UW-Whitewater will host UW-Superior, and UW-Stevens Point entertains UW-Eau Claire.
The title game is set for Saturday.
Tonight (Tuesday), the WIAC women's tourney begins, along with the Northern Athletics Conference men's tournament. Both have eight teams.
