UW tracksters compete in NCAA meet

EUGENE, Ore. - University of Wisconsin sophomore Zack Ziemek is in sixth place at the halfway point of the men's decathlon at the NCAA Division I track meet at the University of Oregon's Hayward Field.

He was helped by career-bests last night in the high jump and the 100-meter dash. Badgers' senior Danny Block took sixth in the shot put on the national meet's opening day. Caitlin Comfort placed 12th in the women's 10-thousand meters. And Badgers' junior Alex Brill failed to qualify for the finals of the steeplechase.

Today, Wisconsin's Dorcas Akinniyi and Deanna Latham will start their competition in the heptathlon. Badgers Kelsey Card and Taylor Smith are both in the discus event. Ashley Beutler competes in the women's steeplechase, and Latham returns for a separate competition in the 100-meter hurdles.
