BALDWIN - Spring Valley usually finds its non-conference prep volleyball match with Baldwin-Woodville a good barometer for how its season will go.

After Thursday's match the arrow is pointing in the right direction for the Cardinals as they downed the Blackhawks on their home floor 3-1.

B-W dominated game one by a 25-12 score. Valley did better in game two, leading 13-5 at one point. The 'Hawks rallied though, to take a 20-17 lead.

But instead of folding SV fought back, retaking the lead 23-20 and eventually getting a 28-26 win. Valley then used their momentum to win games three and four 25-14 and 25-19.

The win improves Spring Valley's overall record to 11-2. They begin Dunn-St. Croix Conference play Tuesday as they host Pepin.
