Vikings linebacker launches Chad's Locker at Hudson hospital
HUDSON -- Children's visits to Hudson Hospital just got a little easier, thanks in part to an NFL linebacker.
The Hudson Hospital Foundation welcomed the Minnesota Vikings' Chad Greenway and his wife, Jenni, to the hospital last week for the unveiling of "Chad's Locker."
The room was filled with donors, medical staff, patients and families for the event March 20. Kids and adults cheered with excitement as they rushed to discover the locker's contents. It was filled with kid-friendly laptops, video gaming systems and iPads -- welcome distractions for pediatric patients and their families during their hospital or specialty clinic visits. The locker will provide an outlet for thousands of patients and families each month.
"I'm excited to have this opportunity -- not too far across the border, but we tread lightly over here, to come and do something very positive," said Greenway, who grew up near Mount Vernon, S.D. "The amount of children, families, siblings and grandparents who are positively affected by this locker is far reaching. It can make the child's visit during difficult treatments and hospital stays much easier and also helps make things easier for doctors and parents."
The Hudson locker is one of three in the Twin Cities area and the first in Wisconsin.
The Hudson Hospital Foundation's partnership with Chad Greenway's Lead the Way Foundation resulted in a new pediatric fund for the hospital.
"The partnership aligns with our mission to provide philanthropic opportunities in support of health care services at Hudson Hospital & Clinics," said Kari Rambo, Hudson Hospital Foundation president.
Chad's Locker will become part of the Pediatric Chemotherapy & Infusion Center, along with the infamous "Border Battle -- Viking vs. Packer" mural.
"We're located in a border community with Vikings and Packer fans across the region, so Chad's Locker will be well-received at our hospital and clinics," Rambo said.
