Vikings take three players in first round of NFL draft
NEW YORK CITY - The Minnesota Vikings already had two first round picks in the 2013 NFL Draft Thursday but traded with the New England Patriots to get one more.
The Vikings traded their second, third and fourth round picks, basically their entire picks for this evening's session of the draft, to the Patriots for the 29th pick.
With their picks, the Vikings chose Shariff Floyd, DT, Florida - Floyd fell a long way and the Vikings got their heir apparent for Kevin Williams at the three- technique; Xavier Rhodes, CB, Florida State - The Vikings get an eventual replacement for Antoine Winfield with another prospect who was supposed to go much higher in Rhodes and they chose Cordarrelle Patterson, WR, Tennessee - Patterson is a very raw player who doesn't run routes all that well according to scouts. But he is the best YAC (yards after catch) receiver in the draft and a vertical threat in theory.
The Vikings will conclude their draft with their 5-7 round picks on Saturday.
