Viola Schmitt Krings, 94
Viola "Tuts" A. Schmitt Krings, age 94, of Arkansaw, rural Plum City, Wis., where she lived her entire life, went home to be with the Angels on Wednesday, Sept. 18.
The former Viola Schladweiler married Joseph Schmitt in June of 1937, to this marriage seven children were born. Together they farmed and later owned and operated the Exile Bar. Joseph passed away in 1973, and in 1974, she married Norbert J. Krings, this union added three of Norbert's daughters to her family. She and Norbert continued to operate Exile Bar and farmed in the area until Norbert's death in 2002. Viola continued living in her own home where she enjoyed playing Uno and Farkle, traveling with her children and grandchildren, spending time with her family and beloved dog Snoopy and cat Candy.
Viola will be sadly missed by her children: Beverly Schmitt, Ellsworth, Wis., Rita (Gordy Johnson) Hampton, Spring Valley, Wis., Jerry (Lou) Schmitt, Glendive, Mont., Wayne (Doris) Schmitt, Wilson, Wis., Leon M. (Ralph Leggett) Schmitt, Raleigh, N.C., JoAnn (Bob) Larson, Plum City, Deb (Quen) Hemann, Stacyville, Iowa, and Denise Krings and Dedra Krings, Maplewood, Minn.; 21 grandchildren, 41 great-grandchildren and six great-great-grandchildren; sister in-law, Margaret Schladweiler.
Viola was preceded in death by her husbands' Joseph Schmitt and Norbert Krings; an infant son Peter Schmitt; granddaughter Donna Hampton; brothers Clarence, John, Ervin and Roman Schladweiler; sisters Alice Wiskerchen, Adeline Mountain, and Sylvia Mountain.
Mass of Christian Burial will be at 1 p.m. Wednesday, Sept. 25, at Sacred Heart Catholic Church, Elmwood, Wis. Fr. Kevin Louis will be the celebrant. Burial will be in St. John's Cemetery, Plum City. Visitation will be from 5-8 p.m. on Tuesday, at the Hill Funeral Home, Ellsworth and for one hour prior to the Mass at the church on Wednesday.
