The report, presented to the village board early last week, refers to information submitted to the Wisconsin Office of Justice Assistance (OJA) through the Uniform Crime Reporting Program. Among the major findings was a slight drop in the state's overall crime rate in 2010, compared to 2009, as well as a six percent drop in both the violent crime rate and the property crime rate. The two most noticeable changes throughout Wisconsin occurred in arson, with a 23 percent increase, and motor vehicle theft, a nine percent decrease.

In comparison, Ellsworth's violent crime rate was down by 100 percent and its property crime rate increased by one percent, Police Chief Greg Place stated in the report.

"We had no arsons in either year and our motor vehicle thefts decreased by 75 percent," the chief stated.
