Volunteer coordinator post approved by Ellsworth School Board

A new volunteer coordinator position was approved by the Ellsworth School Board Monday.

The job description calls for a person to work effectively with school district, public and private entities to coordinate volunteer opportunities for district students and staff. Superintendent Barry Cain said the post was targeted for this school year in the recent Strategic Planning Initiative process.

Cain cited the potential for an improved relationship between the community and the school district in recommending the position. The coordinator could help firm liaisons with civic organizations and assist in developing communitywide initiatives.

He suggested pay be similar to a major sports coach in the district, envisioning approximately $4,500 for the four-hour-per-week job. He also confirmed the coordinator will join administration in working with the schools' Senior Tax Exchange Program (STEP).
