Walker's ready to cover Pierce County behind-the-scenes
Ellsworth Wisconsin 126 S. Chestnut St. 54011

Boiler technician, custodial caretaker, troubleshooter, jack-of-all-trades.

They all describe Scott Walker and rightly so. After all, Walker's made a career of maintenance--in schools, a hospital and even the military. Such traits come with the territory.

The Fairchild native has succeeded the now-retired Al Huppert as maintenance supervisor for Pierce County.

"Everything here is closer together...I like that," Walker said Thursday, comparing the locations of the courthouse, county office building and "blue building" where he'll be headquartered to the distances among the school buildings for which he was most recently responsible.

The new maintenance supervisor kidded he could ride a motor scooter right down the lineup of structures where much of his duties will be based. Joking is in his nature, he said, admitting it was part of being himself during an interview for the job he'd applied for just last month. A few days later, he was told he'd been hired.
