A whole new way to grocery shop
PRESCOTT--Ptacek’s IGA Manager Pat Ptacek is one who doesn’t like to boast too often about things.
But when he gets talking about Fetch Rewards, his excitement is obvious.
“This is the program this is going to change the industry,” he said last month. “It’s going to make it easier and more fun for the customer.”
And new. There are only two grocery stores in Wisconsin (the other is in Madison) that uses Fetch and Ptacek’s is one of them.
Ptacek explained he met the creators, UW-Madison students, at a food show and became intrigued.
“It wasn’t the punch card system, which has been regurgitated,” he said. “I thought this was scratching the surface and the potential is pretty awesome.”
The benefits of Fetch seem limitless and the how-to steps are easy. First, download the app from www.fetchrewards.com to one’s Apple or Android phone. Then, when one enters Ptacek’s, they must get onto their WiFi.
Shopping can then begin. When one scans the items to their phone, this starts their grocery list, so the customers know how much they are spending. Fetch will look for deals and deduct the additional dollar amount off the Fetch item. In addition, the Fetch Points signs throughout the store will enable one to start collecting the Fetch Rewards points.
Then, when they get to the checkout, there is no need to unload the items, as the customer just shows the barcode on the phone to the cashier. They scan the code, and all the items automatically appear, including the deals (manufacture coupons not included), creating a more efficient check-out experience.
For items like meat, scan the barcode on the package. According to its website, for produce items, scan the QR code on the produce sign, and the phone will ask the users to select the product they want to purchase. Tap the picture on the screen of the item desired. Then, weigh the produce by following the weight procedure.
“We’ve had some growing pains, but we are getting better,” Ptacek said.
