WIAA Boys' basketball kicks off today in Madison
The state boys' high school basketball tournament begins this (Thursday) morning in Madison.
Normally, the girls' tournament is first, but a scheduling conflict at the Kohl Center has the boys playing two weeks earlier.
First up today are the Division 3 semi-finals.
Eau Claire Regis will play Iola-Scandinavia at 9:05 a.m. and then La Crosse Aquinas will take on Whitefish Bay Dominican.
No team has more than three losses and Dominican has the best mark at 24-1. Dominican won back-to-back titles in 2004-05 and is the Associated Press' top-ranked team this year.
They beat defending champion Racine St. Catherine's in last weekend's sectionals. Aquinas was the runner-up at state a year ago.
The Division 1 quarter-finals will be played this afternoon and evening.
Madison Memorial plays Lake Geneva Badger and then two-time defending champion Oshkosh West plays a Germantown team that's making its first appearance at state.
Tonight, Bay Port faces Brookfield Central and Eau Claire North goes against Wauwatosa East.
Semi-finals are Friday in Divisions 1, 2, and 4. All four championship contests will be played on Saturday.
