WIAA playoff pairings set - PC goes south, Elmwood north
Pierce County's two WIAA Football Playoff teams will be traveling in different directions when it comes to this year's postseason.
Elmwood will be in the northwest bracket and its Level 1 match-up is at Frederic, the third seed and ranked No. 7 in the state.
Plum City meanwhile is in a bracket of teams to its south. The Blue Devils are the No. 1 seed in this bracket and will play Alma Center Lincoln, 4-5 overall, Tuesday at Ellsworth's Fuller-Symes Field.
In theory, Plum City and Elmwood could meet for the state championship Nov. 20 in Camp Randall Stadium.
However, the Raiders' bracket is loaded. Five of the top 15 schools in D-7 are in this bracket including No. 1 Shell Lake, which hosts No. 8 Chippewa Falls McDonell, No. 9 Clayton which hosts Luck, and No. 6 Gilman which will host Turtle Lake. Elmwood will play the Gilman/Turtle Lake winner in Level 2 the following Saturday of they can upset Frederic, which is 8-1 overall.
Meanwhile, PC is the only ranked school and conference champion in its bracket. If the Devils win Tuesday they'll play either Weston or the No. 4 seed Hillsboro. Also in the bracket is De Soto at No. 3 seed Cashton and Greenwood-Granton and No. 2 seed Cochrane-Fountain City.
Here's the full Division 7 playoff pairings with seeds in parentheses:

An enrollment of 188 was the cutoff for Division 7, one of the lowest numbers since the Division was first established in 2002. Many ranked D-7 teams were bumped up to Division 6 because of it like No. 10 Athens and No. 13 Hilbert. Also bumped up a Division was Alma-Pepin, as they will be in Division 6, facing Dairyland Conference champion Blair-Taylor in Level 1, while Mondovi, which had been ranked in the Top 10 in Division 4 all season, was knocked down to Division 5.
Kick-off for all playoff games is at 7 p.m. Tuesday.
