Wild officially out of playoffs after loss to Sharks
St. Paul, MN (Sports Network) - Logan Couture scored the game-winner with 3:51 left in regulation, as the San Jose Sharks clipped the Minnesota Wild, 3-2, at Xcel Energy Center.
Manny Malhotra and Scott Nichol also tallied for the Sharks, who have won five of their last six games. Rob Blake picked up two assists and Evgeni Nabokov made 11 of his 27 saves in the third period to notch his 41st win of the season.
Cal Clutterbuck and Antti Miettinen scored 1:49 apart in the second period to erase a two-goal deficit for Minnesota. Niklas Backstrom stopped 25 shots in defeat.
The loss officially eliminated the Wild from playoff contention.
Malhotra tipped a Rob Blake shot to put San Jose on the board at 7:19 of the first period. Nichol lit the lamp five minutes later, finding a loose puck amid a scramble outside the crease, giving the Sharks a 2-0 lead.
Nabokov foiled Guillaume Latendresse, but the rebound caromed in off Clutterbuck. The Wild tied the game on the power play, as Miettinen snapped a shot from the high slot that beat Nabokov over the right shoulder at 6:59 of the middle stanza.
An unsuccessful penalty shot by Minnesota's James Sheppard kept the game tied heading to the third period.
