WISCONSIN NEWS ROUND-UP: Body of missing Altoona canoeist found
ALTOONA - Altoona Police say the body of a missing canoeist has been found.
Authorities say the man has been missing since Thursday, his body was discovered by a fisherman near a golf and country club yesterday afternoon. The identity of the victim has not been released. Authorities say on Thursday, two men were canoeing on the Eau Claire River and got too close to the Altoona dam, flipping over. One person was able to swim back to shore.
The Better Business Bureau is warning veterans about a pair of scams. A spokesperson for the group says one scam offers to purchase veteran’s benefits with a lump sum, but only giving about 30 to 40 percent of the entitled amount. The group says that Memorial Day is also a time to remember to watch out for scrupulous individuals asking for a charitable donation, adding that research should be done before giving any money.
While Governor Scott Walker mulls over approval of a proposed casino in Kenosha County, supporters say they are moving ahead with plans. Additional details released by the Racine Journal-Times shows first phase construction includes 400,000 square feet of retail and entertainment space. The plans include about 2,700 slot machines and 100 table games. Governor Walker has until February 19 to either approve or deny the proposal.
