WISCONSIN NEWS ROUND-UP: Toddler drowns in accident in Oneida County
RHINELANDER - Authorities say a toddler has died in an apparent accidental drowning. The Oneida County Sheriff’s Office says they responded to a call for a missing 15-month-old toddler in the Town of Pelican yesterday afternoon.
Deputies found the child in some water near the Pelican River. The child was rushed to a nearby hospital, but it was too late. Authorities say the child was playing with a sibling while the mother went inside to put laundry in a dryer. The child’s name has not been released.
Governor Scott Walker spoke at veteran’s career fair yesterday, affirming his priority to take care of those who served in the state. During VetCon in Milwaukee yesterday, Governor Walker says Wisconsin is a national leader in veterans’ programs and services, including VetCon, which provided veterans with access to around 150 employers. The event was presented by the Wisconsin Department of Veterans Affairs, in partnership with other military and workforce departments.
A jury has convicted an Illinois man of killing a pregnant woman in 2012. 37-year-old Brian Cooper was found guilty of first-degree intentional homicide on Friday in Door County. Cooper was accused of strangling 21-year-old Alisha Bromfield at a resort in August 2012. She was six months pregnant. Cooper will be sentenced in July.
