MADISON - A two-vehicle crash in Dane County last night sends seven people to the hospital.

The Dane County Sheriff’s Office says the crash happened just after 7:00 p-m last night, when the driver of one of the vehicles with five passengers allegedly ran a stop sign… colliding with another vehicle. The incident happened at the intersection of Highway K and P near Springfield. Both drivers and the passengers were taken to a nearby hospital with non-life-threatening injuries. The crash remains under investigation.

The woman accused of taking her half-sister’s newborn baby and leaving it at an Iowa gas station made her first court appearance yesterday. 31-year-old Kristen Smith appeared in a Madison courtroom. Where she faces life in prison if convicted. According to court records, Smith’s family is trying to hire a defense attorney,  forcing the judge to delay her hearing. She was ordered to remain in custody until a lawyer is hired. Family members of the victim were also in attendance, saying Smith will “not get away with this one” and that they plan on being at every court session.

Milwaukee Police are investigating the death of a five-month-old girl on Friday. Investigators say they were called to a home at around 2:00 p.m. on reports of a baby not breathing. Rescuers attempted to resuscitate the baby, but were too late. A police spokesman says the Milwaukee County medical examiner’s office is assisting in the investigation to determine a cause of death.
