WISCONSIN SPORTS BRIEFS: Another shutout win for Brewers
MILWAUKEE - Milwaukee starting pitcher Yovani Gallardo threw a scoreless six-and-a-third innings of work, in a 6-0 win over Miami.
The Brewers scored early, and often, off a Ryan Braun two-run double in the first inning. The bases were loaded again for the Brewers to deal more damage, but were unable to capitalize. Brewers have now shut-out Miami two straight games, a 24 innings scoreless streak for the Marlins.
A Wisconsin native has won the 2013 U.S. Amateur Public Links Championship in Virginia. 19-year-old Jordan Niebrugge, of Mequon, defeated Michael Kim on the par-five final hole of the championship. With his father as his caddy the entire tournament, the Oklahoma State University student claims the James D. Standish Trophy and receives an invitation to the 2014 Masters, if he remains an amateur.
The 37th annual Wisconsin Football Coaches Association Charity Game is in the books. The South All-Stars defeated the North All-Stars in the large school game by a final of 47-19 at Titan Stadium in Oshkosh. Milwaukee Pius XI grad and University of Wisconsin walk-on Connor Senger threw for 171 yards and four touchdowns in the win. Several UW recruits played in the contest. The North won the small school contest 20-19.
