SAN FRANCISCO - Green Bay Packers linebacker Clay Matthews says they plan to hit 49ers quarterback Collin Kaepernick hard and often. An NFL ruling on the read option is having some on the Packers’ defense licking their chops for Sunday’s game… and 49ers coach Jim Harbaugh calling the new rule “biased”.

The new rule treats a quarterback like a runner until he is clearly out of the play. Harbaugh claims quarterbacks in a read option system get treated like a runner, even if he doesn't have the ball and reads to the running back. Matthews told ESPN’s “Mike and Mike” on Wednesday from talking to referees, a quarterback loses protection rights when they carry out fakes, meaning the defense can hit the quarterback… making him uncomfortable.

Gary Andersen hopes to stay unbeaten as the coach of the Badgers on Saturday when No. 21 Wisconsin hosts the Tennessee Tech Golden Eagles at Camp Randall Stadium. Andersen's debut with the Badgers couldn't have went better as they coasted to a 45-0 decision over Massachusetts. Wisconsin had three running backs reach the 100-yard plateau in the contest for the second time in three games after failing to do so in the first 1,170 games of its history. Andersen guided Utah State to the WAC championship and a victory in the Potato Bowl in 2012. The Badgers have began the season 2-0 in nine consecutive year.  Watson Brown begin the seventh year of his tenure at Tennessee Tech with a 63-7 victory over Cumberland, an NAIA school. TTU won the Ohio Valley Conference championship in 2011, but injuries prevented it from repeating and it finished 2012 with a 3-8 record. The Golden Eagles faced a ranked FBS foe last season and they were unable to pull off the unexpected upset, losing 63-14 at Oregon. Brown has compiled a 29-39 record during his time at TTU. Wisconsin is 11-0 against FCS opponents. It has never before faced TTU, which is 0-8 against FBS programs under Brown. The Badgers have defeated 27 consecutive non-conference opponents at home. Kick-off is at 11 a.m. and the game is being televised by BTN.

Milwaukee’s starting pitcher Kyle Lohse had a bad game, to say the least. Allowing seven earned runs in five innings, including five runs in the first, the Brewers fell to the Chicago Cubs yesterday 8-5. Brewers made it interesting in the eighth inning on a Scooter Gennett three-run homer – but came up empty in the ninth inning. Johnny Hellweg (0-3) will get the start for the Brewers this afternoon, Jake Arrieta (2-1) for the Cubs.

Suspended Milwaukee Brewers slugger Ryan Braun is reaching out and apologizing to some fans. A spokesman for the team says a list of random ticket holders was given to Braun, which he used to call and personally apologize for his 65-game suspension. Team officials say some fans have contacted the team, saying they appreciate the sediment - others are a bit cautious. Braun’s season came to an end after he allegedly took performance-enhancing drugs and lied to the league about it.
