WISCONSIN SPORTS ROUND-UP: Bad fielding helps Brewers beat Rockies again
DENVER – The Milwaukee Brewers took advantage of some bad field play, securing a 9-4 win over the Colorado Rockies yesterday.
Milwaukee scored three runs in the third inning, thanks to a past ball and a wild throw by Rockies catcher Mike McKenry. Carlos Gomez also extended his reach-base streak to 34-straight games, the fifth longest in franchise history. Brewers go for the sweep in Colorado today.
Could the Milwaukee Bucks be courting Andrew Wiggins for its second overall pick in the draft? The talented shooting guard worked out at the Bucks’ training facility on Friday. It’s the second time Wiggins has worked out for the team. Another prospect is small forward Jabari Parker, considered the top NBA-ready prospect in the draft. Parker worked out for Cleveland on Friday, but did work out for the Bucks earlier in the week. The NBA Draft gets underway on Thursday.
Waukesha Catholic Memorial is now a three-time state champion in girls’ soccer, defeating Mount Horeb, 2-0 at the WIAA State Tournament in Milwaukee Saturday. It’s the third-straight season that the Vikings have finished as runners-up in Division 3. In other title games yesterday, Milwaukee Divine Savior Holy Angels took the Division 1 title over Schofield D.C. Everest; Waunakee grabbed the Division 2 title on a game-winning goal in the 68thminute over Waukesha West and Wisconsin Rapids Assumption finished an impressive season with a 2-1 win over New Holstein, capturing the Division 4 championship.
