SIOUX FALLS, S.D. - Josh Gasser scored 19 points in the Badger’s 86-75 season opener win over St. John’s.

It was Gasser's first regular season game in a year as he missed all of last season due to a knee injury. Five players ended the game in double figures. The 20th-ranked Badgers outscored St. John’s 33-6 from the three-point arc, shooting 11-of-23. Wisconsin started the game on an 11-2 run and holding onto the lead throughout the game. No. 20 UW will take on No. 8 Florida Tuesday at the Kohl Center in Madison. The Gators also won their season opener Friday.

Marquette struggled in the second half, but managed to open the season on a winning note. Davante Gardner scored 25 points for the Golden Eagles, in a 63-56 win over Southern University at the Bradley Center. Marquette was held to just three field goals (3-for-17) in the second half, but a team-record 53 free-throw attempts was enough to get the win. Marquette’s Todd Mayo also added 20 points – head coach Buzz Williams says Mayo’s defensive plays were key in overcoming second half shooting woes.

Head coach Gary Andersen and the No. 21 ranked University of Wisconsin football team take to the field today, facing a dangerous team looking to spoil any at-large BCS hopes for the Badgers. Andersen is very familiar with BYU. He has a 1-3 record against the Cougars during his four-year tenure with Utah State. The Cougars come into Camp Randall riding a five-game winning streak, behind the duel threat style of sophomore quarterback Taysom Hill. Wisconsin and BYU gets underway at 2:30 this afternoon. The game will be broadcast on ESPN.
