WISCONSIN SPORTS ROUND-UP: Brewers' win over Cubs a costly one.
MILWAUKEE - Ryan Braun had a tough night, but Milwaukee extended the league’s best record with a 5-3 win over Chicago.
While warming up in the dugout, Braun accidentally hit Jean Segura in the head, ending his night early. Team officials say Segura suffered no fracture or concussion, but did need stitches to close a gash. In the eighth inning, Braun suffered an injury himself. Team officials say he is listed day-to-day with a strained chest muscle.
Matt Kenseth finished fifth in the Toyota Owners 400 last night. The Cambridge native was part of a heated confrontation with Brad Keselowski, who accused Kenseth of running him off the road with a shot at winning the race. The wild finish led to Keselowski’s teammate, Joey Legano, to win the race in Richmond. Kenseth continues to hold onto second place in the Sprint Cup standings, five points behind Jeff Gordon.
The University of Wisconsin athletic board has approved an extension to basketball coach Bo Ryan’s contract. The one-year extension stretches his contract to five-years with the Badgers, until the 2019 season. The board also approved a $60,000 bonus for reaching the Final Four last season, the first for the Badgers since 2000. Ryan will also earn about $2.3 million dollars a year, with a $100,000 raise each June.
The University of Wisconsin softball team won its 13th-straight game Saturday 7-3 over Purdue in front of over 1,300 fans at Goodman Diamond in Madison.
