WISCONSIN SPORTS ROUND-UP: Bucks cancel preseason game due to new floor

Email

MILWAUKEE - The Milwaukee Bucks final preseason game at the Bradley Center was more of a slip-and-slide than a basketball game. Referees were forced to cancel the game in the first quarter after players were losing traction on the new floor.

Bucks executive vice president of business operations John Steinmiller says they will investigate and correct the issue immediately. He adds that the old floor is still available and, if the league permits, would fall back on that. Milwaukee opens the regular season on the road Wednesday night against the New York Knicks.

Milwaukee Brewers outfielder Carlos Gomez is one of three National League Golden Glove finalists. The 27-year-old center fielder had quite a season, batting .284 with 24 home runs and 73 RBIs. If Gomez wins, it will end a 31-year drought of a Golden Glove winner for the club (Robin Yount, shortstop). The other three finalist include Pittsburgh’s Andrew McCutchen and Washington’s Denard Span. Winners will be announced on Tuesday night.

A banged-up Green Bay Packers team got some good health news. Linebacker Nick Perry returned to practice yesterday, and could be ready to go for Sunday’s game against the Minnesota Vikings. The second-year linebacker is listed as questionable, but head coach Mike McCarthy says Perry is doing everything he can to be ready to play tomorrow. Meanwhile, the Packers got a special visit from Jermichael Finley, injured in last week’s win over Cleveland. Finley was carted off the field after a brutal hit, bruising his spinal cord. McCarthy says Finley looked like a “movie star” and it’s great to have him back.
