WISCONSIN SPORTS ROUND-UP: Minnesota State shocks UW in women's hockey

MADISON – In one of the biggest upsets women’s collegiate hockey in recent history, Minnesota State shutout No. 2 ranked Wisconsin 3-0 Saturday at LaBahn Arena, forcing a game three in their WCHA playoff series scheduled for today.

The Badgers outshot the Mavericks 51-22 but that meant a whopping 51 saves for MSU goalie Danielle Butters. MSU scored a goal in each period and UW went 0-for-4 on the power play.  The Mavericks are the seventh seed in the tournament with a 13-22-1 record, 7-20-1 in the league.  The series concludes this afternoon at 4:07 p.m. in Madison.

Milwaukee Brewers pitcher Francisco Rodriguez has finally arrived at spring training in Arizona. The 32-year-old reliever’s country of Venezuela is facing political unrest, making it hard for him to leave the country. Rodriguez signed with the Brewers in July. Rodriguez told reporters yesterday that his immediate family is with him in Arizona and he hopes to fly other family members soon so he can turn his full attention to baseball.
