Antoine bested Latvia’s Tomass Dukurs in the final run by three-tenths of a second to claim the final podium spot, behind gold-medal winner Alexander Tretiakov of Russia and Martins Dukurs of Latvia. He is also the first American to win a skeleton (sledding head-first) medal since Jimmy Shea in 2002.

The U.S. men’s hockey team followed up Saturday’s win over Russia with a 5-1 win Sunday morning over Slovenia. The win gives Team USA an automatic spot in the quarterfinal round by winning their preliminary round group. Madison native Phil Kessel had a hat trick in the game while Plover’s Joe Paveliski had three assists and former UW player Ryan McDonagh scored a goal and winning goalie Ryan Miller stopped 17 shots.

Marquette University guard Jake Thomas scored 18 points, including six three-pointers, in an 81-72 win over Xavier yesterday afternoon. Davante Gardner and Jamil Wilson also added 16 points each in the win. The Golden Eagles forced 19 turnovers in the game, including a career-high six steals from Derrick Wilson. Marquette improves their conference record to 7-5 on the season.

Wisconsin PGA golfer Steve Stricker says he plans to play in the Match Play Championship in Arizona, after his brother successfully received a liver transplant over the week. Stricker, the current 12th-ranked golfer in the world, considered withdrawing from the event to be with family… but told reporters yesterday that he plans to make the trip. Stricker says his 50-year-old brother, Scott Stricker, is doing well and that his parents encouraged him to play at the event. The Match Championship gets underway on Wednesday.

The University of Wisconsin men’s hockey team snapped a five-game road losing skid, upending Ohio State in a 4-2 win in Columbus. The win also snaps the Buckeye’s six-game winning streak. Morgan Zulinick and Mark Zengerle each added a goal in the win for the Badgers. Joel Rumpel iced the game with an empty netter goal with four seconds left in the game. Wisconsin returns to the Kohl Center for the final home series of the season against Michigan State on Friday.  UW is 17-9-2 overall and second in the Big Ten at 8-5-1. UW currently ranks No. 7 in the Pairwise system which used to determine the field for the 16-team NCAA Tournament outside the automatic bids. Ohio State is 5-6-3 in the conference and 15-10-3 overall.

The University of Wisconsin women’s hockey team set a new women’s college hockey attendance record at 13,575 fans for Saturday’s game against No. 1 ranked Minnesota. Unfortunately the No. 2 ranked Badgers didn’t give those fans much to cheer about in a 4-0 loss.  Getting goals for the Golden Gophers were Kelly Terry, Hannah Brandt, Brittany Brausen and Meghan Lorence.  Terry also had an assist and Kate Schipper had two assists. Winning goalie Amanda Leveille made 24 saves while UW goalie Alex Rigsby made 23 saves. The Gophers are 24-1-1 in the WCHA and 30-1-1 overall. Wisconsin is 19-5-2 in the league and 23-5-2 overall. Four out of the five UW losses are to Minnesota.
