WISCONSIN SPORTS ROUND-UP: Peralta's pitching and hitting lift Brewers to win
CINCINNATI - The Milwaukee Brewers avoided the season’s first three-game losing streak, blanking the Cincinnati Reds by a final of 2-0.
Pitcher Wily Peralta pitched an eight-inning shutout, with seven strikeouts and allowing just three hits. He also contributed to the team’s only runs of the night… a two-RBI double in the fifth inning, the first in his major league career. Yovani Gallardo will get the start in today’s third game of the series for the Brewers.
The University of Wisconsin softball team got a huge win yesterday over national-powerhouse Michigan, 9-3 in Ann Arbor, Mich. Freshman Sara Novak had a career-high six RBIs, including a grand slam. Senior Mary Massei also scored two runs in the win. Michigan is currently ranked 6th in the nation. The two teams will face off again this evening.
Wisconsin native Mark Wilson has made the cut at this weekend’s PGA tournament in North Carolina, but has his work cut out for him. The Pewaukee native is even through the Wells Fargo Tournament, nine shots back from leaders Mark Flores and Angel Cabrera (9-under). Third-round of the tournament gets underway this morning.
