UW led 1-0 early off Jake McCabe’s first period goal but the Buckeyes used a pair of power play goals to take a 2-1 lead in the second period plus kill off a five-minute major penalty power play. The Badgers responded with three straight goals from Morgan Zulnick, Tyler Barnes and Joe Faust to take a 4-2 lead in the third. OSU scored on a short-handed goal to cut the lead to 4-3 but Wisconsin’s Jedd Soleway scored at the 18:29 on a power play to put the contest out of reach. Mark Zengerle and Barnes each had two assists for UW and winning goalie Joel Rumpel made 23 saves. The Big Ten series concludes tonight at the Kohl Center starting at 7 p.m. and only limited tickets are available. This is the first series Ohio State has played in Madison since 1969.

A handful of University of Wisconsin football players will look to impress NFL scouts and coaches during today’s Senior Bowl in Mobile, Alabama.  These UW players include linebacker Chris Borland and wide receiver Jared Abbrederis, both are projected to draft in the late second to third-round by several outlets while running back James White is a projected fourth or fifth round pick. The 2014 Senior Bowl gets underway at 3 p.m.

Negotiations between the Milwaukee Brewers and free-agent pitcher Matt Garza seems to be ongoing, despite earlier rumors to the contrary. Earlier reports indicated that the two sides reached a four-year deal, multi-million dollar deal on Thursday. However, general manager Doug Melvin told the Milwaukee Journal-Sentinel that as of 7 p.m. negotiations were ongoing. The 30-year-old pitcher is a former first-round draft pick by the Minnesota Twins in 2005. Last season, he snagged ten wins and a 3.82 ERA in 24 games for the Chicago Cubs and Texas Rangers.

Four Germantown basketball players were unable to play in yesterday’s game against Whitefish Bay, due to an alleged drug bust over the week. Germantown Police say the four teens were with other individuals in a car on Thursday morning, when they were pulled over by an officer who smelled marijuana in the car. The four were arrested for illegal drug possession, while the other two face possession with intent to deliver. They were released from jail, but were forced to sit on the bench during yesterday’s game. Despite the loss of four players, Germantown still got the 65-49 win.

Anderson Varejao led with a 16-point performance as the Cleveland Cavaliers defeated the Milwaukee Bucks, 93-78, at Quicken Loans Arena. Cleveland had five scorers in double digits. Tristan Thompson had a 14-point, 10-rebound double-double and Kyrie Irving had one of his own with 10 points and 10 assists. Dion Waiters and Jarrett Jack came off the bench to add 13 and 10 points, respectively, for the Cavs, who had dropped three of their last four games coming in. Khris Middleton paced the Bucks with 13 on 3-of-5 shooting from beyond the arc and Giannis Antetokounmpo had 10 points as the Bucks have dropped 10 of their last 11 games. The Bucks are at home tonight to take on Atlanta.
