Wisconsin veterans get one of highest college tuition breaks under new GI Bill
Wisconsin veterans get a better deal than most for free or low-priced college tuition.
The new GI Bill covers enough in tuition-and-fees to give veterans serving in Iraq and Afghanistan a free education at state's most expensive public college program. In Wisconsin, that's $663 a credit, the tuition for the Oshkosh nursing program.
It's one of the highest per-credit awards in the nation.
Also, 31 Wisconsin private schools offer lower-cost tuition to in-state veterans. And at some places, it's free.
The higher-priced private schools can voluntarily give tuition breaks under the GI Bill, and the federal government matches their discounts.
