Wisconsin well represented in U.S. Olympic track and field trials
Wisconsin will be well-represented at the U.S. Olympic Track and Field Trials which open today (Friday) in Eugene, Ore.
There are 17 men and six women with ties to the Badger State who will compete in various events, with the hopes of making it to Beijing in August for Team USA.
The group includes former University of Wisconsin-La Crosse star Andrew Rock, who was on the Olympic team in Athens in 2004.
He ran in the preliminaries of the 1,600 meter relay and although he didn't run in the finals when the U.S. won, he received a gold medal anyway.
Rock starred at Stratford High School and he now trains near Madison. He'll be in the 400-meters at the Trials.
Also, former Badger Chris Solinsky is expected to be one of the top competitors in the 5,000 meters. He and former Badger Matt Tegenkamp are the top two seeds in the event, with Tegenkamp at No. 1.
