Youth to gather food for baskets
More than 50 youth in English Lutheran Church’s confirmation program will gather food from the community in the next few weeks to help supply Thanksgiving baskets the congregation will put together for families in need in the Ellsworth area.
In recent years, this tradition has been growing, and last year 33 households received boxes full of canned goods and staples as well as frozen turkeys and all the items needed for a traditional Thanksgiving dinner, including pumpkin pie.
The youth will go out to Ellsworth neighborhoods with their adult confirmation guides on Wednesday, Nov. 13, to distribute flyers inviting the community to prepare items to be picked up the following Wednesday, Nov. 20, between 5:30 and 7:30 p.m. “Baskets” will be prepared and distributed by volunteers on Saturday-Sunday, Nov. 23-24, to families who have been referred to the church.
Anyone who would like to be involved in this project is welcome to bring items to English Lutheran Church, 229 W. Main St., until Friday, Nov. 22.
It is hoped this ministry provides food resources and a happy holiday to struggling families in the community. Call the church office at (715) 273-4617 with any questions.
