Youth Government Day to be May 1
The 49th annual Pierce County Youth Government Day will be held Friday, May l, at the Pierce County Courthouse in Ellsworth. Students from all six schools in the county will take part.
County Youth Government Day is a program adopted in Wisconsin in 1954. It provides boys and girls with the opportunity to participate in the operations of county government for one day.
The annual event is sponsored by the Pierce County Council of the American Legion and Auxiliary in cooperation with the county officials of Pierce County. Each school selects a full slate of officers as follows: Sheriff, District Attorney, Register of Deeds, County Judge, Clerk of Court, Treasurer and County Clerk.
As part of the program, the day's activities begin with brunch served at the courthouse when students arrive in the morning and then a general assembly in the courthouse with Judge Wing introducing Pierce County officials. A question and answer session with Judge Wing and District Attorney O'Boyle will follow.
A noon luncheon will be served at Ellsworth High School, courtesy of the County Council of the American Legion and Auxiliary.
