Pioneering artist and author Kip Fulbeck will be on campus tonight, April 11, as part of the Wyman Lecture Series. His multiracial identity project, "The Hapa Project," is on display in the Ames Gallery on the third floor of the UC through April 25.
Fulbeck began the project in 2001, traveling the country photographing more than 1,200 volunteer subjects who self-identified as Hapa (defined for the project as mixed ethnic heritage with partial roots in Asian and/or Pacific Islander ancestry). Each individual was photographed in a similar minimalist style, identified their ethnicities in their own words, and then hand wrote their response to the question “What are you?”
Fulbeck will be speaking at 7:30 p.m. tonight in the Riverview Ballroom, UC. The event is free and open to the public.
