RF Police brought in to deal with suicidal man

Just before 6 p.m. Tuesday, July 17, police officers were called to 1440 E. Cemetery Road to deal with a man who had a knife and was making suicidal threats. The local man ended up in a confrontation with officers who used a Taser stun gun to try to subdue him. River Falls Police Chief Roger Leque said he and a half-dozen officers were at the scene along with a Pierce County deputy. The man sustained “self-inflicted” stabbing wounds and was taken first to River Falls Area Hospital.

River Falls Police Chief Roger Leque said he and a half-dozen officers were at the scene along with a Pierce County deputy. The man sustained “self-inflicted” stabbing wounds and was taken first to River Falls Area Hospital.

He was later transferred to Regions Hospital in St. Paul for further medical treatment.

Leque described this latest knifing incident as a “fairly big disturbance.” No policemen were hurt.

The incident is described as an “emergency detention,” and Leque said he couldn’t release any more personal information about the injured man or the case.

This is the third major incident with a knife that police have handled in the past 10 days.

On July 6, a double stabbing in an apartment on West Cascade Avenue resulted in the death of a 22-year-old man.

On July 10, three sisters, ages 5, 8 and 11, were found dead in their home. The father has been charged with cutting their throats.
