Letter: What’s happening here, they want to know

What’s happening here, they want to know

TO THE EDITOR:

This is being written on behalf of a local official whom we feel has been very unfairly treated by media, local, Twin Cities, neighboring newspapers, television etc., and by his own admission has erred and apologized for his conduct and who is being pilloried as a convict for his single misconduct in 17 years as Pierce County Highway Commissioner, Ross Christopherson.

It is inconceivable how anyone could release such a photo with numbers and print same as representing a murderer or rapist entering a state penitentiary.

We have heard the statement “It is news.” Yes it is, but news can be written in a way to construe compliments or condemnation.

Advice: Never, never make your first mistake, and if you do, make sure your flanks are guarded.

Question: Does every DWI individual get this type of treatment and publicity? It is felt that his sentence far exceeded the crime and that the heavy hand of his employers, to the tune of about $6,000.00, is also excessive. The message seems to be “We have shot a fat buck and will dissect him properly.”

About 2000 years ago, another individual was unmercifully treated and sacrificed and now, the times of the year are coincidental.
