TO THE EDITOR:
Dr. Howard J. Laney, a “Brave Centurian,” passed-on last week and was buried Friday at St. Joseph’s Catholic Cemetery in Prescott.
He’s known and loved by thousands more than his 101 years on earth. He touched myriad lives (helping many into this world) during his watch.
At his 100th birthday party last year, Doc remembered and thanked me for a ride years earlier (I’d long forgotten)—to visit an ill nonagenarian, Jimmy Manion.
I’m proud to have known Three famous Prescott Icons in their 90’s (and beyond): Doc, Jimmy and John Roy Finley. R.I.P. and Viva their memory.
The final stanza of the “Prayer of St. Francis of Assisi” on his Remembrance Card synthesizes Doc:
“For it is in giving that we receive;
It is in pardoning that we are pardoned, and
It is in dying that we are born to eternal life.”
