A 23-year-old Ellsworth man resisted arrest after a theft at Speedway in the village Wednesday morning.

The theft was reported to police at 5:50 a.m., according to Ellsworth Police Chief Greg Place. The man, who wasn’t identified, was accused in the incident and later located at the local Holiday Station Store, the chief said. During contact by authorities with the individual, there was a confrontation and he fought with officers.

The man was transported to emergency detention because of other issues, Place said. The matter will be referred to the district attorney’s office for possible charges, including theft and resisting and obstruction.

The Pierce County Sheriff’s Department assisted the EPD in responding to the report.
