fficials said the Badger State made almost 3 percent more cheese in July than the year before – while second-place California’s output dropped by almost 12 percent.
The gap has been widening for most of the year.
Wisconsin cheese factories pumped out 207 million pounds in July. Almost half were Italian cheeses, and about one-third of the total was American cheese.
Wisconsin made about 52.5 pounds of Cheddar for the month, down almost 1 percent.
Wisconsin also made 2.5 percent less butter in July than the previous year, around 26 million pounds.
