Pierce County Highway Commissioner Ross Christopherson will retire Nov. 1.

Christopherson, who has worked for the highway department since 1979 and has been highway commissioner for the last 15 years, announced his retirement in a Sept. 29 letter to Highway Committee Chairman Chip Simones.

“While I am looking forward to enjoying my retirement, I will miss many of the professional and personal bonds that I formed over my nearly 30 years of employment at Pierce County,” wrote Christopherson. “I thank you and the current and past county boards for this employment.”

In a letter dated the same day, County Board Chairman Paul Barkla accepted the resignation.

“You have served Pierce County well and honorably,” wrote Barkla.
